Congress Passes Measure to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday passed without delay to a bill that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. Trump's team gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a case that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

Swift Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, speeding up the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.

The public have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited patiently,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The bill next will be sent to Donald Trump for his endorsement. The president stated on Monday that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for an extended period dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and stated he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with victims and their supporters who were seated in a public section, broke into applause after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from a GOP representative, who stated he feared the measure would disclose specific data of people, those under scrutiny and others involved in the investigation.
