Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former coach Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.
Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to force a final set.
He rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
